1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs CHOI Jongmoon participated through a pre-recorded message in the “COVAX AMC Summit 2022” co-organized on April 8 by the Gavi Alliance and Germany, which holds the G7 Presidency.

COVAX AMC (Advance Market Commitment): Multilateral partnership launched in June 2020 by the Gavi Alliance (Gavi)*, which raises funds from public and private donors with a view to providing COVID-19 vaccines for low- and middle-income countries

* Gavi is a co-leading organization of the vaccine pillar of the ACT-Accelerator (Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator).

2. At the Summit, Vice Minister Choi stressed that we should continue to support the global vaccination campaign to end the pandemic and affirmed that Korea would contribute to the efforts by increasing the supply of vaccines and supporting the capacity building of developing countries. He also added that Korea would provide training to bio and healthcare professionals from low- and middle-income countries, as a host country of the WHO Bio-manufacturing Workforce Training Hub.

Vice Minister Choi then assured that Korea would continue its engagement in the global efforts to strengthen preparedness for future health threats and recognized Gavi’s key role in ensuring equitable access to vaccines.

3. Korea has contributed 110 million US dollars to COVAX AMC so far. This year, Korea plans to provide another 100 million dollars in the form of financial and in-kind contributions, honoring its pledge made at the G7 Summit in June 2021.
