1. Lee Si-hyung, Deputy Minister for Trade of MOFAT, will hold the 28th ROK-Germany Joint Economic Committee Meeting with Dr. Karl-Ernst Brauner, Director General for External Economic Policy at the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, who is visiting Korea, on July 17 in Seoul.
2. At the meeting, the two sides will assess the impact of the ROK-EU FTA, which provisionally entered into force in July, 2011, and discuss measures to promote bilateral cooperation in new and renewable energy and green growth. They will also discuss ways to respond to the current eurozone financial crisis, as well as developments regarding the G20 and WTO DDA.
3. The upcoming meeting, to be held for the first time in four years, is expected to review the ROK-Germany economic and trade relations, and have an in-depth discussion on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and coordination in response to changes in economic situation, including the provisional entry into force of the ROK-EU FTA, and the eurozone financial crisis.
4. The ROK-Germany Joint Economic Committee Meeting has been held since 1965 in accordance with the ROK-Germany Trade Agreement, which came into force in 1965. The 27th Joint Economic Committee Meeting was held in Berlin in 2008.
